Unauthorized Sellers

Unauthorized sellers are third-party merchants who list and sell a brand's products on ecommerce marketplaces without an authorized distribution agreement or brand approval. They are distinct from counterfeiters — unauthorized sellers typically carry authentic product — but their presence causes the same downstream problems: MAP violations, Buy Box displacement, pricing instability, and channel conflict.

Because they carry authentic product, IP-based takedown tools like Amazon Brand Registry are often ineffective against them. Removing unauthorized sellers requires a combination of supply chain investigation, enforcement communications, and distribution control.
