MAP Pricing

MAP pricing — Minimum Advertised Price — is the lowest price at which a retailer or reseller may publicly advertise a product. MAP is set by the brand or manufacturer and communicated to distribution partners through a formal MAP policy. It governs advertised prices, not transaction prices — a legal distinction that separates MAP from Resale Price Maintenance (RPM) and determines how it can be enforced in each market.

MAP pricing is the foundational instrument of brand pricing control. Without a clearly defined and enforced MAP, brands lose the ability to prevent price erosion, channel conflict, and the downstream loss of brand equity that follows when products are advertised below their intended value positioning.
